Harry Potter

Our whole family is filled with Harry Potter nuts (grandparents included), and we're anxiously counting down the days until the next movie comes out:

We're not quite finished reading the Order of the Phoenix yet though, so it's a good thing the movie's still several months away. We'd like to have The Half Blood Prince finished soon too, as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will probably be released in the summer. Our favorite local bookstore (Vancouver Kidsbooks) always decorates the front of its store to look like Hogwarts or Gringott's Bank, and hosts a midnight party on the day of its release. We haven't made it to one before (the kids were younger and hadn't read as many of the books previously), but we definitely don't want to miss our last chance to participate. They still have their Harry and Hermione costumes from last Halloween, so they'll be dressing the part as well.

The latest craze around here since Christmas has been Wizard's Chess and the Harry Potter Scene It game. The kids are usually playing one or the other. They're obsessed, I tell you.

Any other Potter fans out there?

Not complete nuts, but we really have enjoyed the books and we've seen the movies, too. Our method of reading the books ... Patrick reads to me - he has a wonderful story-telling voice!

He got frustrated with me during one book because I kept falling asleep at the exact same place, so he had to read "Chapter 10, The Rogue Bludger" about 5 times - now it's a standing joke!

Yes, we are completely nuts for Harry Potter. For the last movie, we went to the midnight release, it was AMAZING!!! Total party and made us feel not so much like the geeks we are. We've also done the midnight release book scene, again, loved it. The Boy hasn't gone yet but he's going this next year for both. I hope you don't mind, I'm going to have to take the banner for our homeschooling blog.

Paula - I think that's the best way to read them - the kids won't let anyone but their dad read them because he's so animated.
Too funny that you kept falling asleep!

Chelee - That sounds like so much fun, I can't wait!
I got the banner off of the Leaky Cauldron website, so steal away! :D

Heather - Maybe we'll do the next book on audiobook, I've gotten two recommendations for them in one day.
Thanks for stopping by!

We love Harry Potter. My husband and I were reading the books before we had kids so it was him and I that were excited when the 1st movie came out.

I also did Harry Potter summer correspondence courses with the kids last summer. There is a whole yahoo group set up to support it. They have fun classes (herbology, magical creatures, potions, etc,) set up with lesson plans. Some of the women go really far, but there are some awesome ideas there. Check it out if you like: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HogwartsSCS/

Luv the countdown to Harry Potter.

An equal fan too!!!

If only one could sleep until the awakening of the next movie - such joy that would be.

Wonderful story.
